Blue City Cycles asked me to do their winter sale ad this year, so I did and made a snow-cat in honor of their chubby shop cat Vanya. Go visit sometime! They're one of the only shops in Chicago who will repair hella damaged bicycle frames.

Twitter friend Art of Pleasant House Bakery needed a rutabaga for their farm's logo. I lent a hand and happily took payment in the form of their delicious royal pies. If you don't do work for delicious food every once in a while then you're not really living.

We ended up going with a vectorized version of the hand drawn fella, but there were so many cute rutabagas that I had to share all six of 'em.

Every year around Thanksgiving Rule29 holds a competition for the best hand turkey. in 2010 I submitted one, playing off of how it's traditionally a children's activity. I mean, who didn't do like 50 of these when you were a kid? I did the coloring using my left hand, which, if you're a righty, is the best way to fake kid-style scribbles. I ended up winning 2nd place!

2 Night Stand is an interesting experiment in design, collaboration, and beer put on by Bright Bright Great. I participated in the first #2NS along with many of my friends and plenty of new faces. The first night we were presented with a client, Trencherman's Brewing Co., and then we had less than 24 hours to put together an entire identity, collateral, and website system.

We came up with a mascot, Thurgood Trencherman.

There's an EXCELLENT process blog up on Quite Strong.

I made up this handwriting one night in '09 when I was writing a birthday/goodbye card out for dude-crush. It grew mostly from the "C", with that curlycue up top which I borrowed from my friend Cyro. Then I suspect some of the uppercase influence comes from another friend, The Viking.

While I was working at CB2 I was asked to come up with a CB2 Exclusive idea for a FLOR tile. The CB2 merchandising team liked the installation I did at The Whistler, so we aimed to get a similar neighborhood-y feel. This project was a whole new challenge (carpet format, tiling, gigantic files), but ohhh my gosh was it fun. Getting to brainstorm and draw out each little interaction for this cast of made-up people was the best part. What do you think is going on with them?

AND HEY! They're for sale!

I've been doing Oliver illustrations with CB2 for several years now, starting in 2009 when I was working at Crate and Barrel full time. I developed his character with Bonnie Cauble and the CB2 product development team, and ever since his first 3 plates, he's been a huge hit. Each year there are 3 core designs and new designs for Holiday and Summer seasons. He's also featured on drinkware from time to time!

What you see here is only part of what's been on sale over the years. You can buy Oliver plates here and see what's most current. The selection changes seasonally, so buy them while you can!

CB2 featured the story of Oliver's creation on their blog a while back. Highly recommended!

TyK had a Goldsprints event at the Empty Bottle to celebrate the release of their men's calendar. I drew up this poster for the event at the Empty Bottle.

In the winter of 2010 I had the great pleasure of doing a window installation at The Whistler, one of my favorite bars in Logan Square. After drinking there, like, all the time, I got to know the bartenders and started drawing them. Soon I drew all of them, and then the new employees were asking me to draw them! That's kind of how it started. I submitted a proposal to do a slice-of-life window installation, featuring doodles of (made-up) Logan Square scene folks. It got approved and after lots of work, installed!
The nice folks at Orange Alert interviewed me as their Artist of the Week because of this installation!

More on The Whistler's storefront gallery.
